When Father Denzil asked me to write “something” about The Prayer Shawl ministry at St. Peter’s I contemplated a few pedantic lines about the overall silent , background project. Instead I have chosen to share with you some lines from a letter received from a recipient.
“I was simply speechless when I opened your most beautiful coral prayer shawl. The past three weeks have been a very difficult and challenging time for me. Just know that the “Blessed” shawl helped get me through a very physically and emotionally oppressive period. I felt as if I was wrapped in a cocoon of your love, warm thoughts, prayers and kindness.
As I take the next steps I will wrap myself in my warm wonderful shawl…my security blanket. It has already given me more comfort than you can ever imagine.”
I think you will agree that this says more than I could about the meaning of our work. Thank you to our current knitters whose silent willingness to reach out to the unknown amongst us who are in need. An invitation to our future knitters who may join in this ministry is always open.
God Bless you all.
