Adult Education at St. Peter's

What Is The Adult Forum?

What began as an opportunity to discuss the Sunday Sermon has evolved into a weekly adult educational program that is an integral part of the Sunday morning experience at St. Peter's. Each week a group of parishioners, along with our clergy, grab their coffee after the 10 a.m. Holy Eucharist and gather in the Library or Parish House to spend 30-45 minutes learning about and exploring a variety of topics. While initially the themes tended to be suggested by the current interests of the clergy and some participants, this past year the majority of Adult Forums considered subjects suggested by members of the parish, resulting not only in a wide diversity of topics, but in a deepening of our consideration and the relevance of each one.

What have been some of those Adult Forum subjects in the past?

Church Music and the Sojourn to Gloucester; the current condition of the church's buildings and the plans for their restoration; Human sexuality and the issues facing the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church; the work of the Deanery and the Diocese, the Cape Cod Council of Churches, and the Global Mission Partnership Program of the Diocese of Massachusetts, especially related to Haiti; Hospice; ministries supported by the Outreach Committee; reconciliation as the major theme of Lent, Holy Week, and Easter; Advent as a time of preparation; environmental stewardship.

These are just a few of the topics that the Adult Forum has considered since its beginning.
