Habitat for Humanity

The Mission of Habitat for Humanity is to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world by working in partnership with people in need to create simple decent homes in decent neighborhoods where people can flourish and grow into all that intends for them. This congregation will help further that Mission by:

  • Praying for Habitat for Humanity - especially the volunteers and the new homeowners
  • Helping with volunteer work crews, locally and possibly in other parts of the world.
  • Contributing financially to the work of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Making issues of poverty and inadequate housing matters of conscience, both locally and throughout the world.
  • Explore other ways that we might address these issues in our daily lives.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

When Father Denzil asked me to write "something" about The Prayer Shawl ministry at St. Peter's I contemplated a few pedantic lines about the overall silent , background project. Instead I have chosen to share with you some lines from a letter received from a recipient.

Prayer shawls made by St. Peters' knitters

"I was simply speechless when I opened your most beautiful coral prayer shawl. The past three weeks have been a very difficult and challenging time for me. Just know that the "Blessed" shawl helped get me through a very physically and emotionally oppressive period. I felt as if I was wrapped in a cocoon of your love, warm thoughts, prayers and kindness.

As I take the next steps I will wrap myself in my warm wonderful shawl…my security blanket. It has already given me more comfort than you can ever imagine."

I think you will agree that this says more than I could about the meaning of our work. Thank you to our current knitters whose silent willingness to reach out to the unknown amongst us who are in need. An invitation to our future knitters who may join in this ministry is always open.

God Bless you all.

Peace,
Janet Thornton
